General description of the collection: The John J. Pershing photograph collection is a compiled collection of primarily United States (U.S.) Army Signal Corps official photos of General Pershing throughout his career. The subject of most of the photos is General Pershing himself. There are no unique, unknown or unpublished photos in this collection, and none of these photos ever actually belonged to him. It is a very general coverage and is very heavy on World War I. There are also several photos of painted portraits that were done to honor General Pershing at different locations, and one shows a plaque honoring him on a building on Governors Island in 1954.
